This is Anna Heledd, 14 years old and she has an amazing blog called "The life of a fashion nerd"
She was
shortlisted for the ‘Best Teen Blog 2013’ at ‘Company’s #StyleBloggerAwards’
and featured in ‘You Magazine’. She aspires to work in fashion magazines around
the world and loves anything quirky and different!
We
caught up with Anna, a village girl from Wales, as she calls herself,
and asked her a few question about herself and her blog!
and asked her a few question about herself and her blog!
1. When did you start your blog?
I
started blogging when I was twelve years old, and I started blogging as a
hobby, for a way to express myself and not care about people's opinion. I never
really thought anyone would genuinely read my blog and value my opinion as much
as people do these days, it's insane!
Honestly,
I can't remember when I came up with it, but the name comes from my 'status' in
school I suppose. I realise that I'm never going to be the most popular, and
back when I started writing my blog, people were really surprised that I of all
people was writing it, and that's what I expected. 'The life of a fashion-nerd'
comes from my sort of 'double life' as a blogger, and 'watching the world
through a different perspective' is my way of saying that I started looking at
the fashion world from the outside, but now I'm plonked in the middle, and I
couldn't be any happier!
3. What’s your personal style like?
I'm
not a very dressy person, and I'd pick jeans over dresses any day, but I do
occasionally love to dress up, as every girl should once in a while!
4. What’s your most favourite store?
I'm
actually obsessed with H&M at the moment, their clothes are so stylish and
inexpensive, and I can literally find anything I want or need there if I look
hard enough! New Look have got a great selection of summer clothes in the
bigger shops, and my favourite department store has got to be ASOS since it's
amazing, and it is literally the 'queen' of all department stores.
5. If you found £1000 cash in a bag,
how would you spend it?
I'd
have to spend some on my brother and my family, since they do so much for me,
and I'm a big fan of present giving, if I've known you for a week you're bound
to get something off of me, from a pen to a packet of bourbons! But I'd go on a
massive shopping spree, and I'd have so many trench coats and stilettos I couldn't
even count!
6. Who is your fashion inspiration and
why?
My fashion inspirations tend to change all the time,
and I never really stick to that one certain person, since I find changing up
your style icons keeps you on your toes, and makes you think a lot before you
decide which looks you're going to go for. I've always loved bloggers style,
and for about a year now I've been loving Effie from Effie's Makeup Box's
wardrobe, I think she's so quirky, and I would never think to pair up the items
of clothing that she pairs up, yet it still works! I also really like Amy
Valentine's style, I think her style is quite effortless and grungy, but she
keeps it light and playful with her candyfloss coloured mane. In fact, I really
love pink and violet hair lately, so much so that I'm buying hair chalks for
summer so I can experiment!
7. Where do you see your blog in 5
years?
I've been blogging for a long time, and it's got me
very far. I've experienced things that I would have never experienced if I
didn't have this hobby, and I've met so many different people. My outlook on
life and fashion has really changed, and overall I'm a happier person than I
was two years ago. Blogging helped me realise that my voice is worth hearing,
and if you find the right people, anyone will listen (or read!) what you have
to say, you've just got to find them and never let anyone make you feel as if
you're not going to achieve anything, because you will! So in five blog years,
I hope to still be writing 'the life of a fashion-nerd', I will have hopefully
(fingers crossed) won an award or two along the way, since that's my next
personal career goal, and also maybe be writing part time at a fashion
magazine. I mean, I'm only going to be 19 going on 20 in five years time, so I
can't say that I would like for my blog to be world famous and for me to be
plastered on every fashion magazine all over the world, although that would be
a nice touch ;)
8. Do you think wellies could easily
fit with your style?
I think
wellies would definitely suit my style, it's obviously a fashion statement,
since they are known stereotypically to be worn in the countryside, and they
aren't really a street shoe, but I can definitely see them finding their way
into the high street shops and people buying from Mooi en Lief, if I style them
right, then why shouldn't I wear them out?
9. What do you think is the biggest
difference in kids fashion and teen fashion?
I think that the biggest difference is because usually
the parent's choose the clothes till the age of about 8 until the children
become more opinionated of what they are wearing. Also, kids are open to take
risks since there aren't really 'pressures' to look good when you are younger,
you don't really care about what you wear and no one really judges you. But
teens are a lot more self conscious of what they wear, so sometimes teens often
find themselves dressing for other people's tastes, not themselves.
10. Are your followers/fans mostly young
kids who look up to you, teens who like to get inspired or adults who use your
suggestions for their children and/or themselves?
My audience tends to be a mixture. Since I'm in high
school at the moment, a lot of people younger and older than me come up to me
asking about my blog or asking for opinions, so that's always nice, also I get
a lot of emails from university and school students asking if they can
interview me, I once got one from an eleven year old asking if I can answer
some questions for a project, it was really sweet! But I do also get people who
are ten, twenty years older than me reading my blog, and I treat them all
friendly, because I know that they are the people who have got me here!
11. What fashion rule do you never
break?
I don't really think there aren't any faux pas, just
things that I wouldn't really wear myself. Although I do really dislike the ‘gingham
trend’ at the moment, I don't know what it is about it, but I just wouldn't be
seen in it since it isn't my thing really.
Thank you so much, Anna, for your time and lovely answers!
We wish you all the best and no doubt we will see more from you! x
